Everyone has different ways they are dealing with all of the political fallout of a failing empire. For me, I’ve decided to move away from spending my money where the corporation or the CEO doesn’t align with our values.

We have canceled Amazon Prime. We have canceled our target red card. We have upped our spending at Costco for both home and the clinic (we still don’t shop there much because…huge portions). We have dramatically upped our grocery spend at locally owned grocery stores and our neighborhood coops. We have maintained spending at Trader Joe’s. We have upped our household spend at locally owned hardware stores. And we have purchased a few books at a neighborhood bookstore.
I have gotten Starbucks coffee only a handful of times in an airport of an unfamiliar city.
Ultimately, I think we are probably slightly up on spending. But it’s hard to tell because we are weighing more expensive stores against price hikes from shitbag administration against less buying out of convenience.
This isn’t perfect, of course. Real people from our community work at target and Whole Foods. But it’s something maintainable and it feels so much better to be out shopping in a neighborhood.
