Historical Context of the Contact Sheet

A contact sheet is a grid of thumbnails and it is used to view a series of images at a glance. The contact sheet was originally a roll of negatives from film photography. But now when a contact sheet is used in digital photography, it is often used in the editing process and helps to identify which photographs will be used or discarded.

My Studio Contact Sheets

I used Adobe Bridge to create these contact sheets, using the folder of images I already had saved to my computer. Once I created the contact sheets I exported them as a PDF and used the tools on Microsoft Edge to markup the selected images. I then saved it and took screenshots to upload here.

Who are you- optimisation

I have optimised one more my images after creating my contact sheets with my ‘final’ images. 

And I have created a contact sheet for this and then made one more, with my options selected for that.

I have also decided to crop my images into a square to fit in more and make it more whole some, that’s the feeling.

This my final images that I will be kind of working with and see which ones go better.

I have created sequences for this to look better and have a better general look at it.

The only difference being the portrait, which I am undecided still.

I have chosen the boxes as my object, because it represents the moment I moved to Scotland in 2016.

That represents me not being settle for those times, as I have been moving around quite a lot. 

My first year not being in Glasgow even, and after that made the ‘big move’ to the big City.

I always been on the run since I came, but at the same time, every time I find more and more the feeling of home and being settled.

Also Scotland being part of home now.

That's why my location it’s my actual flat, my sofa in the living room of my house. 

Including the boxes, meaning I'm home finally. Also being with a personal moment in where I am again living with my best friend, which again, we both meet on the same year that we both came, in the same place, same age. So it is very personal to me.

And then my portrait, being me, I wanted to show my tattoos in purpose, as they represent me as well as the plants.

Which by the way, the start and finish at each end of the first and final image, making it like an opening and closing kind of thing.

And my portrait it is blurry, in motion, in action because of that. Me not being settled, like I said before and moving here, to Scotland from Spain when I was 18.

Boxes been away my long for a long time now, but finally I'm home.

I have also added some colour grading to make them match, done some Dodging and burning on the editing side, as well as adding High Pass and editing the Basic edits as well to my please.

And finally made the Triptych.

Society: People and Place

Our fortnightly task was ‘Society: People and Place’ and relating to the genre of street photography. Personally, I found this theme quite difficult to shoot as I live in a small village with a population of just over 300 people, most of them being elderly and skeptical of young peiple. So I opted to try and complete this task when I was in town for college and to my surpise I actually managed to get some good shots. In response to some feedback I recieved from a course leader, I have annotated my images and will keep what I need to improve on when I’m on future shoots.

Cheap Attempt 2

Monday the 11th of November 

during last weeks double studio, I focused on one item: a small stationary trolley. I experimented with different techniques as well as backdrops. During this class, I borrowed a mirror that I also experimented with. Below is a contact sheet from the 300 images I took. I narrowed it down to 50 or so images.

Contact Sheet (Hadrian’s Wall)

This is a contact sheet I made in class using photographs from a trip to ‘Hadrian’s Wall’ in England.

I used Adobe Lightroom Classic to make this.

The first thing I did was create a new catalogue and named it ‘Contact sheet’.

I then found 12 images I thought went well together and Imported them.

After Importing, I clicked on Print and chose a page grid of 4 rows and 3 columns  

Selecting the grid I wanted, I then went to Page Setup and changed it from A3 to A4

During this I noticed I didn't have any data on my sheet so I went down to the right side of Lightroom to find the Page Tab and tick the Photo Info box and select Exposure so that each photograph would have the exposure details on it.

Being pleased with everything I selected Printer.. to check that everything was going to print out okay (and make sure it was only one copy) I went down to the library to collect my Contact Sheet.

After this I wanted to post my image on tumblr so I made the image into a JPEG rather than a PDF which it was originally saved as.

I saved the image as PDF onto my desktop, after doing that I selected the image again from the File not Lightroom.

I then went up to file on the above tab of the image and exported it onto my drive as ‘Contact Sheet’ but not before changing it from a PDF to a JPEG.

I then logged onto my Tumblr and created a new post, inputting my image.

Clean White- contact sheets

These are my two contact sheets from my first shoot on Clean White at the Studio.

These aren't optimised, edited or cropped at all.

Doing these and seeing them in contact sheets made me aware of how the background changes, realising in some of them they seem to have some grey shadows which is weird.

Need to pay more attention to this next time got new more ideas that I want to try.
