Compost pumpkins update! They are trying to take over! A few leaves have also been nibbled here and there. Probably deer since it is right at snacking height for them lol

My pumpkins in composting totes are going crazy! No fully developed flowers yet, but great leaf growth!
I filled these totes in the winter with nasty leftovers from my fridge (rotten eggs, moldy fruit, dairy, oil, salt and all) layered with the bags of leaves/trimmings/acorns I got from the sides of the road in the fall. Surprisingly no critters got into it while it broke down (despite me seeing possum prints on my property while these were out).
On top of each I added half a bag of compost and planted out pumpkins! Each of the 2 totes has 3 vines in it currently. Totes were also salvaged from the side of the road so total cost of this set up was <$10 because I bought the seed and bag of compost.
Mushrooms have appeared in my pumpkin compost totes! I always hear this is a sign of healthy soil. I am so happy to have positive feedback ♡
Here’s me using the Compost Crank (left), and Twist (right), to turn and aerate compost. Basically they do the work of a pitchfork or shovel, but without the mess and fuss.
