#17- The Crawlers (AKA Contamination .7 AKA Creepers AKA Troll 3) (Joe D'Amato and Fabrizio Laurenti; 1990)
Day 3 of VHShitfest's Horror Month
The story behind The Crawlers is absolutely fucking ridiculous. Produced in Italy as Creepers, the film was originally slated to be released in the United States in 1990 as Troll 3, despite having nothing to do with the first two Troll films. The U.S. release was shelved until it came out direct-to-video in 1993 as The Crawlers, with a director named Martin Newlin credited for some reason. At some point the film was known as Contamination .7, but I have no idea if, where, and when it saw release under that title. It has yet to be released on DVD.
I've never seen the infamous Troll 2 (kind of ridiculous seeing as I write for a blog about bad movies), but The Crawlers is horrendous in all the worst ways. A nuclear power plant is dumping waste into a forest, resulting in the deaths of a few people. The film follows a bunch of boring characters as they learn about the nefarious power plant and attempt to stop it.
There are long stretches of empty conversation, there simply to pad the running time out to the short, but still incredibly bloated 94 minutes. The last fifteen minutes contain some amusing special effects shots, but most of the time, the film only makes you sad.
IF YOU WAIT, YOU'RE BAIT!
