I Am Interested In Dancing, Where Do I Start?
For all who just want to get into dancing.
Maybe you went to an event, saw a video online, maybe your friend showed you a cool move and now you wanna know how to dance. BUT you don’t know where to start! Today I have a couple ideas to help you guys get started.
The first thing I would say - find a place to practice.
This could be anywhere. In a garage, local community center, a dance studio, ANYWHERE.
But make sure you find a place where you feel comfortable in. Right? Sometimes when you are in a private place like your own room or garage might be a good place to start.
Then, put on some music and just try it out.
It might be silly, you might feel like you just rolling around on the floor, but hey, that’s what we are doing. So put on some music and just try to move around, put your arm up, kick your legs, make a circle and so on. Be a kid again.
Find a mentor.
It’s easier for some people and harder for others depending on where you live. A mentor is someone who has more experience, someone you can practice with, maybe one of your friends or you can actually go out and take a dance class or get a private lesson. Mentors are really really great kinda have an inside that you don’t, shows the things you can do to have progress. It’s someone who can guide you in the right direction.
Start of with watching tutorials.
When there is no one around, maybe there is no dance facilities or anything like that you can start off with online dance classes. And that’s a great thing about 2018 you can actually go on internet type in and you can learn literally anything.
So the next question is what tutorial should I start with?
So for those who have literally never danced before, I can give you a list I want you guys to check out: - Hip-hop moves; - Or these Hip-hop moves; - Contemporary steps; - Stretching exersices; - Pop-jazz.
Last but not least, always keep in mind why are we dancing?
For some people, it’s one reason, for some it’s another, but always have fun. It’s a way to release energy, express ourselves - all these things. So when you dancing, don’t forget to have fun.
Also, don’t forget that as a beginner, the most important thing is to try to make your body flexible and light. That’s THE KEY for beginners, so don’t miss this part and take your time to improve physical aspects and find out what your body can do.
But how to choose a dance style?
There are so many interesting dance styles and it can be very confusing. Of course, you have watched hundreds of videos on Youtube and Dance2sense, all these amazing choreographies and crew dance insane! So how to find out about what style you should start your dance way?
The best is to start with a music. The type of music that you enjoy and you feel like dancing will help. So the music can tell you the type of dance you should try.
For example, if you enjoy hip-hop music - try hip-hop, if you like some rock or lyrical songs - test yourself in contemporary or modern, if you like pop songs - try jazz-funk etc.
Yeah, you can make all these steps but still don’t do the first move.
That’s why it’s time to change yourself mentally.
You have to understand two things. 1) Everyone is scared to start something new. And all that dancers you love have started in their times and had the same fears. take all your bravery, all your power and make your move. 2) * Rehearsal is a key.* Even if you aren’t plastic from birth, have both left legs and don’t hear the music at all, by repeating choreography, doing exercises and just keep pushing will make youк dance better. Period.
Just keep it going and save the reason why you dance in your mind all the time.
