Water Problem:
The Continents Are Drying.
Satellite data reveals continents are losing freshwater fast, leaving 6 billion people in countries facing long term water decline.
Water supplies, in northern continents, are collapsing into long droughts - with out the expected replenishment of rain.
Demand for water now far outweighs what's actually available, creating long term shortages - rather than a shorter emergency.
Unfortunately, 75% of the world's people now live in areas with dwindling water sources - that's some 6 Billion folks!!
Whole nations have long been facing "Day Zero" - when water supplies run out!
Sadly, we're not making things any easier for ourselves.
Ground water is being sucked up to cool AI facilities & keep golf courses green...
Worse, we're poisoning our own rivers with agricultural chemicals that help plant products grow.
Further, acid rain - caused by polluting industries - poisons even the under- ground reservoirs that we're overusing as well...
It's now known that most northern continents are also drying up.
This used to occur before, but more in already dry areas.
Even California's farm belt & the U.S.'s southern High Plains are experiencing worse droughts.
And dry regions are growing larger in northern Africa, Europe, the Middle East, northern China; &, Central & SE Asia.
Even worse, half of all the world's agricultural lands lie in areas facing collapsing aquifers & severe shortages of much needed water...
Weirdly enough, a lot of misused water is now contributing to sea level rise!
This continental runoff now adds more water to the seas than the melting glaciers of either, Greenland or Antarctica!!
Perhaps, worse of all, this water loss isn't expected to return in a human time scale...
That's long term suffering.
Only one factor still remains in human control - groundwater loss...
The World Bank & local governments have been monitoring water use, setting water pumping limits & refilling aquifers - when possible.
But, in some places, this is only slowing down the major collapse of available water supplies...
Hard choices are being made in affected areas, like:
1. What foods to grow.
2. How to keep cities supplied.
&,
3. Saving every drop of water possible...
End?
