Writing Snippet # 5

"You must understand why out of everyone in this room, I am the only one who will truly help you ” The person’s mask was that of a wolf, it’s ebony surface seemingly smooth, but textured with light featured for the fur, gold lining the cheeks and curling towards the pointed nose. Their own mask was that of a white rabbit, possibly to mock them with their situation.

“Why, wolf, would you say that? For the fox has already helped with my mental predicaments, and the stag is a woman of charity”. As they spoke they inclined their head towards their fellow masqueraders casually, though their heart raced at those odd aqua orbs currently transfixed on them. The wolf’s smile didn’t reach those dazzling orbs, and was plenty was more predatory than the fox’s, who spoke with a disarming smile that reached their hairline and ungloved hands. In contrast the wolf’s black gloved one’s took theirs, and spoke with the same rugged accent as their mismatched suit.

“Why, dear rabbit, I would say that because out of everyone in this room, I’m the only one who knows what you seek.” 

A chuckle, a swirl of red wine in all too fragile glasses.

“Well, the only one who knows what you seek and is honest about it”

A sidelong look and a step forward on too polished floors.

“I may be a monster, but at least I’m honest about my misdeeds.”

A pointed look too full of those beautiful aqua orbs that pinned them so their spot under the growing ebony shadow surrounding their dull ones. What wouldn’t be dull under those eyes?  They were brought back to reality as the voice spoke with a new danger every prey recognized.

“I know many who are not so honest, dear rabbit. I know one who stands in front of me right now”
