Song of Myself
I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of autumn grass. By Walt Whitman

Dear Followers,
we continue our Colombian Contemporary Music Week, here at Musica in Extenso, focusing today on the music of Diego Vega.
Diego Vega was born in Bogota, Colombia.
He grew up surrounded by musicians, and a mix between jazz and folkloric music influenced by Blas Emilio Atehortúa, he started making music based on folkloric songs and music, and mixing them with contemporary techniques.
The rhythms found in this piece are based on folkloric rhythms and melodies. It’s divided into four movements without a name, each movement based on different dances from different regions of the country: caribbean, central, and pacific.
If you want to know more about him and his works, you can go to his page: http://diegovega.com

It’s time to continue our Colombian Contemporary Music Week, here at Musica in Extenso and to meet new composers.
My name is Andrea ( @studyingandrea ) and this week I will contribute to this blog as a Guest-Editor. As a regular follower of Musica in Extenso, I observed that this blog often presents female composers, so for today I tought that would be a good idea to talk about a colombian female contemporary composer.
Carolina Noguera Palau is a colombian Composer, born in Cali, Colombia in 1979.
Recognized for representing the different cultures of the country in her music, collecting folkloric music and taking them as basis of her work. She expresses her ideas in atonal language, exploring different textures and tone colors. She teaches music composition, and is an active composer.
Fiestas de Pubenza is a carnival celebrated in January in Popayán, Cauca (department of Colombia) to honour and celebrate the racial diversity in the country.
This piece is divided in three movements: I. El tiempo de la Fiesta (Time of Festivities) II. Arrullo Celeste (Celestial Lullaby) and III. Resonancias temporales (Temporal Resonances), and it’s written for flute, clarinet, viola, cello and piano.

Contrabasul
ISTORIC Contrabasul derivă dintr-un tip mare de violă, denumit violone sau contrabasul violei, metamorfozându-se în aceeași epocă și în aceleași ateliere cu ceilalți membri ai familiei instrumentelor cu coarde.
