In the spirit of being in Annapolis on vacation rn, here’s some Contrition art for ya!

At Your Mercy

I come here a penitent. I don’t do elegies with quiet panache like you, but each time I catch

a tangential glimpse of our story, inwardly I whimper like the world ending.

You drove in starlit robes sea spray of the sky through tar-darkness;

in my arms in the dawn beside the rush of the surf you were the rosy sun.

The first and last ship I sank, our wreckage choked and chased me. I had to keep moving right off the edge of the earth.

You were the chain, the bitten apple, the glittering river, the single tear.

You were a night train to places we both ached to see, wishes fulfilled by the rain on our skin,

and I’ll never live down causing you pain.

I taste words never spoken and my bones keen for you.
