NYE Controlled Danger Review

Happy New Year!!

I rang in 2018 at The Forum w/Mayer and Dave! The stage was setup with a bar, tables where Jeff Ross & Friends sat and a jukebox behind them where the DJ kicked the show off. The curtain behind them and the stage flooring/catwalk was all red. Jeff Ross opened the show and did a hilarious roast of some audience members!

Mayer played the exact same set as Saturday night’s show. He joked that if he was famous in 1987 he would have dated Tiffany and dedicated “Love on the Weekend” to her. “Free Fallin’” featured a bit of Petty’s “You Don’t How It Feels.”

Dave did his standup routine. Not as raunchy as the more intimate shows at the Hollywood Palladium. Mayer joined him and they did some back and forth banter w/the main jokes and different responses, more PG than Friday and Saturday nights! Mayer announced that at 12 am Eastern time he’s off Twitter! Not sure how long it’ll last! He sang/played “More Than Words.” Mayer broke out “Patience” by Guns-N-Roses which brought me back to 2004 at his Tampa show! He even played a bit of “Gravity” saying he knew he was going to mess up and he wrote it in 2005, but knew it was going to happen.

During “Purple Rain” the guy who played harmonica for Prince a few years ago (he’s been at all 3 shows and has killed it w/Mayer noticed Stevie Wonder in the audience and then it happened. Stevie sang “I Wish” from his seat while Mayer played guitar. I freaked out! Like how insane is that!!

Dave wanted to sing a song together for the last 6 mins of 2017 so we all sang “Killing Me Softly with His Song.” Then we counted down to 2018 and confetti dropped along with balloons. Dave’s daughter rushed to the stage, Mayer white boy danced around! I white girl danced by my lonesome then Mayer started to play guitar.

They ended with the Barney song and that my friends was the end to my 3-night run of Controled Danger! I have to say I like the smaller shows, they were more intimate and personal and dirty as all get out! But I wouldn’t have been anywhere else with anyone else other than celebrating my night with Mayer!
