What are the dos and don'ts in your opinion of SPN conventions? Like what do you think a "fan" shouldn't do while there?
Ohhhh what a question. Here are my personal ones, anyone else feel free to reblog and add:
DON'T touch a guest without their consent. Hugs, touches, kisses, etc. ASK for a hug if you're in an op, don't just pounce on them. They are people and if you wouldn't want a stranger to touch you unexpectedly, why would they?
DON'T ask them uber personal/leading/drama-seeking questions. Especially if you get picked to ask a question at a panel. It's just plain rude. And you can tell when they'd rather not talk about something and you've just put them in a very awkward situation. Not cool.
DON'T ask for a sexual photo pose. I once stood behind a group at ops that asked Misha to spank them in the photo and he refused three times, adamantly, but they kept pushing and the line was long so he finally did it. He was clearly not comfortable. Yes, you've seen other people get "kissing" ops... maybe they know the person. Maybe they were super chill. Otherwise- please don't. It's just ... creepy. Imagine a stranger asking you to do such things... on camera no less.
DON'T forget to eat/drink!! You are going to be running around all day/weekend, and you NEED TO EAT. I did not do this my first con and I nearly punched Samantha Smith in the face by Sunday night because I was so hangry. Not cool. EAT. DRINK. REST.
DON'T forget to make friends! Mostly everyone you meet at con is basically the same kinda crazy as you and this is the best place to meet like-minded folks. Yes, say hello to the person sitting next to you. Joke around with the person standing in line behind you. Smile. Interact. We're all just as shy and awkward. I've made MANY con friends like this and meet up with them yearly. Don't be afraid!
DON'T worry about how you look! Everyone else is just as nervous as you are and trust me, no one is looking at your clothes or your belly or your shoes. They're all focused on the guests. You look great.
DON'T forget to have fun!
