it’s almost over! I’ll definitely have con depression after this is done so I’m just going to say some things now because they’re going to be just more angrier if I do it during con depression

1. DO NOT TOUCH ART UNLESS YOU GET AN OKAY FROM THE ARTIST

Most art ESPECIALLY PRINTS AND HANDMADE ITEMS you should NOT allow anyone to touch unless it’s okay. ESPECIALLY if you have DO NOT TOUCH signs. I’ve had a few things broken because kids were not being watched by their parents.

I had someone manhandled my custom doll that I would sell for over $150, just manhandled like a bargain bin doll.

2. DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT PRICES

if something is “too expensive” or is $20!!??? MAAAYBE go to walmart and buy something mass produced from slave labour. You’re not only buying art, you’re buying someone’s time, experience and love and care. Artists need to live too. By supporting your local artists you’re allowing them to grow as artists and people.

No one can live through “exposure.”

I had a grandma loudly complain that something that I worked on for more than 2 hours shouldn’t be priced at $25, but closer to $5.  She was TEACHING her grandkids that art shouldn’t cost any money. She’s allowing her grandkids to learn that art doesn’t cost anything and FUCK YOU! to the artists.

3. DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH ARTWORK WITHOUT PERMISSION

ESPECIALLY PRINTS!!! this is obvious???? you’re just taking a screenshot of something online and stealing it essentially.

4. DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS WANDER.

many artists DO NOT want your kids touching their things.

I’ve had kids violently hold and poke and prod items that were $35 and up... pretty sure you don’t wanna pay for that broken item that your kid broke..

I personally HATE when kids touch my items. they leave gross hand marks and can potentially ruin items for other people who want something that hasn’t been ruined!!

5. DON’T TAKE BUSINESS CARDS IF YOU DON’T ACTUALLY CARE

I almost ran out of business cards today. and I barely got any new follows lol

business cards still cost money. don’t be an asshole.

one time some lady that was REALLY ON DRUGS took like 5 of my business cards (the expensive kind too) and just asked about my decor and tried to take my decor and then left. fuck her.

6. don’t be an asshole.

just don’t.

if you’re not there to support artists or have fun or to just be a decent person. just leave. you’re not welcome.

Con Rules

I went to Animazement this past weekend, it was my fourth time going, and I absolutely loved it. I think there are unsaid rules about conventions, or just rules that nobody listens to, but here are a few things everybody should know. These rules are in no particular order. 1. Personal hygiene

For the love of God, if you’re not going to shower (which you really, really should), at least wear deodorant or perfume or something. Several times when I was stuck behind different people, I could smell sweat and unclean bodies, and they stunk. I really don’t think that’s too much to ask for. Make sure you smell decent, and you won’t harm the noses of those around you. 2. Look decent That one looks a little misleading, but what I mean is wear decent clothing. Cover up everything a good swimsuit would. For some people cosplaying, their outfit might just cover what a swimsuit does, and that’s okay. But please don’t have stuff hanging out. You might be escorted off the premises. 3. Be polite Cons are very busy. Thousands of people go to them, and it gets very crowded. If someone is in your way, just say ‘excuse me’ and tap them if they don’t respond. If you are pushing through to get somewhere, say ‘excuse me’ and ‘sorry’. If you bump into someone, do the same thing. When addressing staff members, guests, or anybody really, always be on good behavior. You don’t want to cause problems. 4. Ask for pictures If you see someone cosplaying as someone (For example, I dressed as the Mad Hatter) and you want their picture, you have to ask. Do not take their picture if they are walking past, or if they are resting, or anything. It is extremely rude, and may cause problems. If you ask and they say no, accept it and move on. Most people will say yes, but a few might say no. Just accept it and move on, even if they’re shits about it. If they say yes, wait for them to get in the pose they want, then take the picture. After you take the picture, say ‘thank you’ and move on. If you want a picture with them, follow the same rules.  5. Be patient As I have said before, cons are extremely busy. You most likely won’t be able to get around quickly. Don’t get frustrated, or yell profanities, or anything like that. Just wait. Your turn will come up. I promise. 6. Be prepared Be prepared for anything. Bring snacks, a bottle of water, entertainment, etc. If you are taking part in one of the events (autograph session for example) then there might be a line. To avoid frustration, bring entertainment. Bring a small snack so you won’t be hungry all the time, and bring water so you won’t get dehydrated. 7. Cosplay If your costume is very heavy, or could potentially be dangerous to others, don’t wear it. You don’t want to get kicked out and you don’t want to injure another person.  8. Have fun These are supposed to be fun. Just have a go with the flow kind of feel, and things will be okay. Enjoy as much as you can, because it goes by quickly. There you go. Some simple, but important, con rules. There are more of course, and people can feel free to add more if they would like.

Hello! I was looking on your site and I couldn't find anything about a weapons policy. I was wanting to cosplay a character who has a skateboard and a baseball bat for one of the days, and I wasn't sure if those two items would be allowed. I'm guessing probably not, which is fine because it doesn't make or break the cosplay, but I'd like to know before I go. Thank you!

Our Weapons policy is below but directed to your exact case: The baseball bat must be plastic, no wood or metal bats are allowed. the skateboard may be used as a prop, but not to actually ride on.

Prop Weapons: “Prop Weapons” may be carried during the convention, provided that you comply with the following restrictions. “Prop Weapons” are homemade or commercially rendered costume props that support the overall look of a costume or character. Exposed metal is only allowed on the handle of a prop, provided that it conforms to the requirements set forth in this Weapons Policy. Metal-bladed Prop Weapons, which include any display of live steel, or Prop Weapons which may present a danger to others, may not be displayed. No props may have any sharp edges or sharp pointed tips. No items over seven (7) feet in any direction or weighing over fifteen (15) lbs will be allowed. Water guns, squirt guns, and non-functional toy guns (toy guns that do not launch any form of projectile) will only be approved if they are one of the following colors: white, bright red, bright orange, bright yellow, bright green, bright blue, bright pink, or bright purple; either singly or as the predominant color in combination with other colors in any pattern; or are transparent or translucent. Orange safety tips must be present on weapons of any other color and be prominently visible at all times. Water guns and squirt guns must remain empty. Filling them with any substance will be considered a violation of the Peace Bonding requirements. Prop Weapons are to be displayed only as costume pieces. Prop Weapons are not allowed to be swung, jabbed, thrust, thrown or otherwise actively used on the convention grounds or in parking lots. Doing so can injure others and create unsafe situations. Anyone brandishing a Prop Weapon will be asked to remove it from the convention grounds. You may pose with a Prop Weapon in a brandishing manner, so long as no reasonable person would interpret the posed brandishing as anything but a pose for dramatic effect, and so long as the pose is not done in anger, as part of a quarrel, or as a real threat. Such posed brandishing may be stopped at the sole and absolute discretion of Ahn!Con Security or staff members.
