Present study was conducted during 2013-14 at University of Agricultural, Faisalabad, Pakistan to Fig. out gene action and heritability of lint yield and quality traits in upland cotton. Parental genotypes viz COKER-3113, CRIS-9, BT-122 and CRS-456 were crossed following 4×4 diallelmating design. Genotypes showed significant variations for plant height, monopodia plant-1, sympodia plant-1, bolls sympodia-1, bolls plant-1, seed cotton yield plant-1, fiber length, fiber fineness and fiber strength

7 EU Commission Says Conventionally Bred Plants and Animals Non-Patentable | AgroNews

"In a long-awaited statement, the EU Commission has taken the view that plants and animals that are obtained by means of “essentially biological” breeding are non-patentable. This statement is in strong contradiction to the current practice of the European Patent Office (EPO), which has already granted more than 100 patents on conventionally bred plants such as tomatoes and broccoli.

Today the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich granted a patent on conventional breeding. Seminis, a company owned by Monsanto, received the patent (EP 1597965) on broccoli derived from conventional breeding. The plants, which are supposed to make harvesting easier, are derived from conventional cross-breeding and selection. The patent covers the plants, the seeds and the “severed broccoli head”. It additionally covers a “plurality of broccoli plants .. . grown in a field of broccoli.” The European Parliament as well as the German Parliament have both been highly critical of such patents. Just recently, two millions of signatures were collected in a petition calling for a prohibition of patents on conventional breeding. No Patents on Seeds! is initiating an opposition against this latest Monsanto patent.
