I spent a chunk of my weekend attending a Conference about running Conventions based in the fannish side (not a convention pro, but we did touch on some of the big shows). I presented a panel on Accessibility, and sat in on several other panels, and got to "trade war stories" with folks I had only met online mostly. Even if you just sat in the room and listened to others, we are not all that different and there are many things to learn, many things to realize - "oh good! We are brilliant!" - and I also gained a lot more respect (yes that is possible) for some of the other departments I work with at various conventions. I mean, it also gave me ideas for groups like @relayforlife and @cwcnational.
