The super-cool architecture studios of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts are located within a converted sea plane hanger. The building originally designed in 1921 by architect Chr, Olrich, was one of the first pre-stressed concrete structures of its size in Denmark. The conversion, designed by Dorte Mandrup Architects - originally as luxurious and creative offices and then later re-purposed for the architecture school, is a beautiful architectural installation within the landmark building. Three white steel structures form the framework of the zoned student areas. Ranging between two and four stories in height, each structure is veiled in large fabric curtains allowing the inner studio spaces to open and close from the rest of the working areas - creating flexible private and collaborative working areas. An open, and inspiring space.
