This cool artist’s home in France was a horse stable only 5 yrs. ago, when a couple that loves architecture converted it to a home. 

They left the beams from the stables. And, they left the original cement floors.

Enter a light-filled living room with a mint green fireplace. 

They made the fireplace double-sided so that it also faces the dining room. I like the various gray chairs.

They put in a large kitchen in sleek black & white. 

They added a modern industrial staircase to access the bedrooms upstairs. I really like how they painted the doors purple.

The bedrooms aren’t very large, but they have nice windows and get lots of natural light.

The smaller bath has a shower.

The secondary bedroom.

The larger bath has a tub and a shower- love the view of the awning out the window.

This is lovely- a deck out back on the water.

Petra & Martijn rehabilitated an old farm in Holland. Would you believe that this bright living room was where the pigs were kept? 

They saved the brick walls as much as they could.

It’s a very special home- they painted the beams black to contrast with the new white walls in the dining room, where there’s a fireplace and a nook for logs.

What is now the kitchen, is where the cows were kept. You can see the age of the beams.

Check out the ancient well-worn stairs that lead to the hay loft.

At the top, they put a pretty, fancy, railing.

This was actually where the hay was kept.

A hallway and rooms were constructed for bedrooms. 

This must’ve been some sort of storage room. Aside from building rooms, everything else was preserved. All the stone floors are the actual stable floors.

In the bathroom, as in other rooms, wooden cabinets and low doors were restored.

This is cool- it’s a real mews, b/c the homes are all converted horse stables on a cobblestone street. This one is 3 floors and 3 bedrooms- it’s so cozy, too. 

The kitchen and dining room are industrial/rustic. I love that it doesn’t have standard cabinetry. But, the best feature is the old brick wall. 

This cabinet is a vintage industrial salvage piece.

Patched brick and worn paint-  so much character. Two steps lead to a modern living room.

You can see what was once the original stable door. Maybe b/c this room was remodeled with new drywall, they chose to give it a modern look.

Isn’t this great? The glass ceiling makes it a fabulous conservatory. This room alone is enough to make me fall in love with the house.

This old stable in Italy was converted to a home, and is it unique.

The ground floor has a living room/kitchen open space, but look at the mezzanine.

The kitchen is under an industrial style mezzanine and there’s a brick wall. Doesn’t it look like a loft?

Actually, the mezzanine could be more accurately called a catwalk. There are lots of possibilities for the space- home office, atelier, seating, or home library. 

And, look at that- there’s another room.

This is nice.

The master bedroom is off the living area. I’m not lovin’ the wonky wall- I see what they tried to do, but it’s looks like a DIY fail.

Nice bath.

And, a great covered porch.

Lionel’s cool home is a renovated, stable, garage, and hayloft. He’s an interior architect, and to him working equals playing, recycling, assembling, with a wink towards other cultures, the local context, and the past.

The craft of creating furniture has been handed down 6 generations. Isn’t this a great space, full of art and interesting things?

Love these old metal columns. This door leads to the living room. 

This is quite a piece of art, rather than a chair.

The living room is quite large and has 2 different seating areas. 

The kitchen looks handcrafted, and I like the industrial design of the desk.

This room looks like a fine study, and I love the green chair. What a great place.
