... yesterday we were listening to a “conscious” reggae artist and I was wondering aloud to my husband if the artist’s life mirrored his music accurately. So often, it doesn’t line up. It led to a real conversation about our own music and what we’ve ‘preached’ in our lyrics... and how long it took us (or is still taking us) to actually practice it. So often we artists will write wise, prophetic, loving, challenging or thoughtful lyrics because we’re trying to convince and our own selves to live that way. ▫️ Y’all know what I mean.
