To Miss. Dorottya Crow:

Although our conversation was brief at the Soirée, I will admit I was surprised to see your name already scribbled on Lady Whistledown’s condemnation sheet. I hope now that you will take my advice to heart for the future season to come.

Though several Patronesses would have me turn my nose at you and yours, I never much liked their advice. Nor do I think the rumors towards you or Mr. Mowbray to be particularly true. Let us visit more properly at Blen Nuneham when the Season is properly at its end.

You will get an invitation from me when all is settled.

Gunter’s Ice-Cream

“Two of almond and peach, if you please.” Margaret provided her ice cream order before reaching into her reticule for the necessary amount of coins. It was busy in Gunter’s that afternoon, though perhaps it was always busy whenever the doors of the parlor were open. Who could resist a treat and respite from the clinging heat of London summer like this?

She handed off the first cup to Aunt Helena, pointing to some open chairs in the corner of the establishment.  “I’ll be there shortly, go on.”

As she waited for the other serving of ice cream Margaret loosened the ribbon on her bonnet, letting out a heavy sigh. She couldn’t take it off, her hair would be horrid. The best they could do was eat quickly to avoid any melting (of both ice and person) and return home for the day.

Her attention turned to the small doorbell announcing new customers coming through the entrance and Margaret saw her streamlined plan vanish from her mind. “The Misses Crow.” She greeted with a polite smile, “It seems all of London is of the same mind today.”
