Dark Counterparts AU: In the Shadows of a Castle
Wendy crept through the narrow window, alighting softly on the stone floors. She’d sensed the soul of someone Lost in this world, and she was following the instincts that led her in their direction. Her Shadow, detached from her, flew around the corner, making sure the way was clear. When it nodded to her, Wendy drew her dagger and kept close to the wall. A few tapestries were hung, blowing gently in the night breeze. Still, Wendy spared barely a glance for the silken hangings, instead turning around another corner.
Just then, Wendy heard voices coming closer as boots strode down the hall. From the sound, they were guards. The girl frowned. While she could dispatch them easily, she didn’t feel like resorting to such feral measures early. After all, how could she be certain they were the ones who afflicted the Lost One?
Instead, Wendy blew a kiss, and Her Shadow mimicked her. The air grew stronger until the sconces in the hall died. The guards called back and forth to one another in dismay, trying to regain their bearings. Wendy took the opportunity to pass between them, quick, agile- and utterly without their notice.
Finally, around the next bend, she found the door she sought. Her instincts screamed at her that a Lost One was inside. Wendy used the blade of her dagger to break through the lock, quickly sweeping the door shut before the guards could be the wiser.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” Wendy introduced herself with a smirk.
