1. what's your favourite kitchen appliance?
This is mildly hilarious because on acquiring another specialized kitchen gadget a few months ago, I did have the "wow I'm getting old and thus excited about specialized kitchen gadgets" moment of realization. I enjoy my rice cooker and countertop grill, but I would have to say the stand mixer is the girl for me. I use her often and marvel at her prowess, etc.
18. have you ever changed fields in your career or education?
I am... sort of doing that right now, with the pursuing of a new MA degree in international relations. My PhD is in history, but I had the grave misfortune of completing it in summer 2019, 7 months before the start of Covid, and I honestly don't think the job market (not that it was super awesome before) has ever recovered. Now we have the Orange Fascist Clown Car openly destroying American academia and especially the humanities/social sciences, so.... that's great. I currently work at a university, but I would be willing to NOT do that, just because the bullshit is so unending. The new degree would open some new doors/possibilities in research and think tank-type work that isn't explicitly affiliated with a university, and maybe also allow me to get a job abroad (which would be Nice.)
25. would you rather own a dishwasher or a laundry machine if you could only have one or the other?
My current apartment does have a dishwasher, but it doesn't have an included laundry machine (I do it in the laundry room at the main office), so I am used to that. However, my first year out of college, I lived in an old house that not only had no laundry machine, the nearest one was several miles away wherein I had to load it all into a backpack and ride a bike all the way out to the laundromat and then back. That was the worst. So honestly, if I didn't have a laundry machine readily at hand, I would have to give up the dishwasher, because there's really no world in which I would wash my damn clothes by hand. Nuh-huh. This is not Little House on the Prairie. We have advanced as a civilization. The end.
