Sterek and cupcakes and children who glitter
Stiles slams the oven shut with his foot, drops the tray of slightly misshapen cupcakes on the counter. Absently he sticks a spoon in the icing he's got next to him, licks it clean.
There's silence except for Scott clattering into the kitchen looking excited.
"Are you a small child, or in fact, a baby goat?"
Scott scowls at him. "No," he goes to grab a cupcake, "But I figured--"
"Nope," Stiles slaps at his hand. "You'll eat all of them, and Alex will find a way to kill you in your sleep."
Scott shudders, at six Lydia's youngest daughter is already a terrifying creature. Sometimes, Stiles will catch her looking at him with narrowed eyes, like she's planning his death. Derek tells him he's imagining things, but he's not, he's so not.
"Can I help ice them at least?"
Stiles hands him a spoon. "Go nuts, I'ma go get the rabble."
He pads into the living room, picking up stray wrapping paper and unwritten cards he still has to wheedle his kids into writing for everyone else in their class. The etiquette that goes into Christmas actually kind of hurts his brain. He'd suggest being out of town for the entire season if his dad wasn't here, and Derek didn't love it. Derek adoring Christmas? Total revelation. It came out quietly over the years, a casual stocking with Stiles' name on at the end of the bed whilst he was at college, arguments over what had the best merits for being at the top of a tree, Stiles coming home one evening from work to a fucking Winter wonderland in their hall. The kids had loved that one. He thinks it's something Derek likes to immerse himself in, give everything he has to show his family how much he loves them. Hell, Stiles is totally ok with it, he never had much love for the season until Derek came along, now the enthusiasm both Derek and his kids have for it is infectious.
"Yo, little elves!" He stops in the living room door and bites his lip. Scott and Allison's eldest is showing Derek how to wrap pipe cleaners to make a Christmas tree, talking him through it with the patience only Scott and Allison's kid could possess. Alex is casually ripping through paper with vicious glee, her sister Jamie watching her like a hawk. Stiles' kids are of course, having a glitter fight.
Derek doesn't seem to have noticed half of it has ended up in his hair, and in his beard.
Stiles clears his throat, arches an amused eyebrow when Derek looks up at him and glitter showers across the table.
"Cupcakes are ready to be iced," he informs everyone. There's a riot as their kids start climbing over each other to get to the kitchen, and Stiles wades through them to collapse on the couch next to Derek. Derek leans back next to him, rests a hand on his thigh.
"Did you ever, ever imagine we would be living a life of domestic bliss together, dude? Like ever, ever."
Derek snorts, "No," he twists to give Stiles a soft smile. "But, it's nice."
"Yeah," Stiles says faintly, grinning back at him. "It is."
"No! Uncle Scott, you're only allowed one!"
"Ouch, Alex, put that down!"
