Enjoying the porch swing at my grandmas
thinking about how sometimes when i go outside the air smells fresh as it caresses my face and threatens to rearrange my hijab. thinking about days when a cool breeze protects me from the anger of the smoldering sun. thinking about how the wind breezes past my face and makes the corners of my mouth turn up.
Sunset at Seabreeze Outlet, Webster New York. 2017
As an artist, I like taking pictures, just not very good at it and that's why I don’t post them here. There are many people that take wonderful pictures or the world around us and I follow a bunch. Still, this place was where we would go after work to relax. Working very close to Lake Ontario meant that we could drive or walk a few hundred yards and this is one place that we would sit. The small pointy thing to the left of center is actual a large light/foghorn about 20 feet tall, that was about 200 yards out. We go sit on the huge rocks by that and eat some chips, drink water and discuss the day. Ahhh, reeelaxing. Toronto, Canada would be straight up north on the left side, across the water about 25 miles or so.
I really want a Texas summer ambient track.
Give me cicadas that scream incessantly over my head. Give me grass that rattles and sighs in a cool but thankfully present breeze. Give me the occasional clicking sound of grasshoppers leaping away while my feet crunch across the gravel path that leads to that gurgling little stream, where the wind always swishes high in the pecan trees. Give me that weird soaring sound that the airplanes make, which for some odd reason I always thought was the sound of the clouds as they rushed across the sky. Give me the hum of distant motors and the steady whine of the air conditioner as I rock back and forth on that creaky old swing that bumps the porch railing every third swing. Give me chittery lil squirrels and the faint noise of someone mowing their yard just a block or two away. If you can, give me that quiet heavy heat and humidity, which is a sound and isn’t one at the same time. Give me the clink of ice melting and settling in my glass of tea. Give me the noise of those clumsy little June bug wings as they try to fly around but keep bumping into everything, even if you only see them at night. Just give me a central Texas summer ambient track.
An Opus of Cool Breezes
Step lightly through the clouds, The birds whistling softly by, Like feathered dreams Of a world in a hurtling sky. Their eyes gleam at you. Wings dipping into the celestial ocean, With twinkling, winking stars. They are all that persist, With unbridled wonder much like mist. An opus of cool breezes flicking past, Praising the glory of the shining night And their trekkers That step lightly under the light.
It’s always so much fun to write these weird and ambiguous poems, it feels like I’m tapping into magnificent places.

Spring approaches, on sunlit skies and cool breezes.
It's open window weather
