They're the Reason That I Teach
This was by far the most terrible week for me (physically and emotionally), while today became the worst day of my short teaching career. I genuinely wanted to quit. Details aside, I realized how tough it is to be in education - let alone in the inner city school (students, faculty, teachers, parents, other circumstances). I literally regretted my two year TFA teaching commitment for the first time. Then as I was cleaning up at the end of the day, I noticed that one of my students left her papers underneath her desk again. Grumbling at how my students always make a mess, I go to pick it up only to see my blurry face on the other side of the school paper. Last semester a different student of mine interviewed me and the article finally came out. As I read through it, I was humbled and reminded of the words God led me to say and the reasons He sent me to be here in the first place. Suddenly there's was refreshing and peaceful release of the God-given passion I have for these youth and the reminder that any struggle I may go through, I have no doubt most of my students have probably endured far worse by the mere age of 15... Here's to His perfect timing in my life, and for the renewal of my commitment to do things with greater excellence.
