Another set of animal crossing cryptid villager designs.
The coonigator is a bizarre hybrid animal purported to dwell in the woodland around Montpelier, Vermont. As its nickname suggests, it is a cross between a raccoon and an alligator, with a round, furry torso and a long, reptilian snout.
Though sightings of the coonigator have been reported for decades, they have increased in frequency in recent years. It is widely believed that these cases are simply panicked people misreporting encounters with ordinary mammals, perhaps with mange or some other disfiguration.

#coonigator coonigator Said to be a grotesque hybrid of a raccoon and an alligator the Coonigator or Raccoonigator has been the stuff of legend in rural Vermont for generations. Most commonly spotted diving in dumpsters or scavenging unkempt campsites around the Mount Pelier region of the state. Upon first appearance they seem very raccoon-like what with their fuzzy round gray bodies and striped furry tales but observers who go in for a closer look are surprised by a terrifying reptilian maw jammed packed with the teeth of an alligator. My “Monster Spotter’s Handbook” claims they look a lot like the lil guys from “Critters” but most of the pics on the net I can find lean more towards a protruding snout, and if i know one thing it’s that the internet’s always right! You know the routine, take it and run. I only ask that you remember the details that can make it fun: Teeny humanesque hands, bandit masks, a body that will look considerably smaller when wet, horrible smells, famed thievery and from the other side of the hybrid the tendency towards malicious lurking, explosive power and the potential for a bird friend or two for flossing those ice cream containers and syrup bottle shards from out of their overbit jaws!
COONIGATOR #COONIGATOR These grotesque, raccoon-like, semi-reptilian foragers are said to dwell in the dense, and often foreboding, forests of Vermont. Sometimes known as “raccoon-igator,” legends of these ferocious, fur-bearing, ostensibly cold blooded HYBRID BEASTS — which are known for their midnight raids on campground dumpsters — have been emerging from the rural, woodland regions of Vermont, particularly the Mount Pelier area, for generations. Often mistaken for a raccoon at a distance, these swift scavengers have terrified more than a few observers who have had the opportunity to get a close look at these unique animals as they scoured through dumpsters or garbage cans during one of their notorious nocturnal feeding frenzies. Described by eyewitnesses as being a relatively small mammal, with a rounded torso and a thick coat of grayish fur; far and away the most fascinating — not to mention frightening — aspect of these creatures are their faces, which, according to most accounts, bear a visage which is virtually indistinguishable from the voracious aquatic predator known as the alligator. It is the apparent synthesis of features between these vicious reptiles and these dexterous masked tree dwellers, from which this Darwinian nightmare garnered its bizarre appellation. In fact, this varmint is so bizarre by zoological standards that “The Monster Spotters Guide to North America” was forced to reference a mid-80s pop-horror-alien film in order to describe the creature: “NOT MUCH IS KNOWN ABOUT THESE STRANGE ANIMALS. ACCORDING TO REPORTS THEY LOOK LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE MOVIE ‘CRITTERS,’ RESEMBLING RACCOONS IN BOTH APPEARANCE AND BEHAVIOR, EXCEPT THAT THEY HAVE FEARSOME ALLIGATOR-LIKE FACES.” Although the origins of these repto-mammalian hybrids remain shrouded in mystery, sightings of these animals have measurably increased during the past decade. This fact has caused more than a little consternation for homeowners in the Mount Pelier region.
There is a bizarre creature being reported around Montpelier, Vermont. The most common description of the beast is a crocodile or alligator head firmly attached to the body of a raccoon. The locals call the creature the Coonigator. From far away, the creature looks like a normal raccoon but for the few who have seen it up close are adamant that it is a strange hybrid creature with a reptilian head. Reported sightings have gone down in recent years, but it is said that the creature - or a small population of them - are still out there.

Wow I’m getting way behind on posting these Inktober drawing to Tumblr. If you want them as I make them, I post them on my instagram when I finish them. Just don’t get a chance to Tumbl ‘em until I can sit down and write a decent blurb.
Anyway, this was one of Vermont’s coonigators for October 6th. A fairly modern cryptid with increasing reports of sightings n the past decade or so. Described as “resembling the monsters in the movie Critters”, they’re said to look like a rotund furry grey creature with a reptilian face. The idea of a hybrid raccoon alligator is so strange very few suggestion for what people could possibly mistaking for this rarely surface, though some say it’s possibly the result of people seeing possums in dim light, mistaking them for raccoons, and then being alarmed by their faces.
