Trainer Haruka
so let’s talk about this wallace cup thing a repost, purely for organization’s sake.
subject of discourse: who should have won: may or dawn?
disclaimer: now i’m gonna go ahead and acknowledge that we as RPers obviously have our biases for our characters. but what i CAN say is that i didn’t warm up to may until WELL after i watched DP and tbh i’ve held this opinion for some time. believe me or not--i’m going to go through this step-by-step.
what i want to do, to make this as simple as possible, is address the most common arguments (and also maybe some off the dash lol) i see for Dawn’s victory and tell you why they’re bologna.
everything under the cut cause it is LONG.
THE WALLACE CUP RETCON (and how it affects the anime timeline)
Hi, and welcome. Thank you for taking the time to read my retcon. I’m writing this for the sake of ease of myself and my partners. Now, if you read my original argument in defense of May’s victory, you’ll know I discussed two ways to reorganize the placement of the Wallace Cup on the Anime’s Timeline to better respect both parties as coordinators. So, what did I choose? Your answer, to quote myself:
a) push it earlier. maybe even allow more cameos. this could possibly even be the start of dawn’s temporary downfall rather than the end, which would be interesting because she would write off that loss at first. well it WAS may. no big deal. can’t be mad about losing to someone so nice and experienced. and to paraphrase geoff, it would give sort of a parallel. this is what dawn could become. woulda been nice.
another piece i commissioned from the lovely Laura (nerdinsandals)! this time, it’s May in an outfit I designed for her! who is she smiling at? that’s for you to decide!
#PKMNMonthOfMay • Week Two • Favorite pokemon of May
I’m pretty burnt out on art right now, which is why this is hot garbage & also why it’s literally cutting it pretty close WRT the end of this week xD But I can’t give up now, watashi makenai and all that jazz.
Blaziken was the starter I never cared for, the singular hoenn pokemon that never caught my interest. It wasn’t until the mystery dungeon games Government Issue Kin Assigned Me with it that I began to warm up to the torchic line, and quicker than I ever had before, I fell hard. Not only is Blaziken caught in a two-way tie for my favourite pokemon of all, but it was the first favourite I ever truly had. When May’s combusken evolved, I was on a long hiatus from the anime because the voice actor switch had left me real down in the dumps about my favourite show. As soon as I heard about it, I absolutely DOVE back in.
These two have honestly been through so much together and it’s so adorable to me how it went from a baby that May could hold in her arms to a big friend who’s twice her size and instead could carry her! There’s honestly nothing like starter bond, it’s the most beautiful & wonderful thing. Blaziken will always be the first pokemon May loved, and obviously, I identify with that quite a bit myself.
(behind the music: Munchlax is a close second, and my best friend proposed I draw Blaziken holding a ‘May’s Best Pokemon’ trophy while Munchlax tried to eat it)
