I went thru all the soundtracks for David Lynch's masterpiece television Twin Peaks and I reached the following conclusion – most of the music from Twin Peaks could stand on its own. True, the images complemented it or even enchanced it, yet the compositions can be heard outside of the series and still work. Take a look or, better, take an ear at this one in the link, which is from Twin Peaks Music: Season Two And More compilation, cause it sounds like a jazz song with bad intentions and worse discipline. It is groovy in its dissonance, even though it does not really go anywhere. There is no resolution to its melody, it is only variants on the same mood. Yes, we could say that it is intentionally like this, since it has to service David Lynch's plot, but that is a simplistic view. Yes, Mr. Badalamenti made tunes that put Lynch's twists higher, however, he also did them in such a way they could be listened to anywhere else.
