Another (Pathetic) Call-out Post I Can’t Comment On

Recently, the user @natalieironside put a screenshot with the beginning of my description on her blog and blocked me. I am not able to comment on the thread this screenshot spawned. These are my responses to the people who have not blocked me but have still commented on the thread.

@squirreltastic​ No, I don’t believe adults get touch-starved. If an adult is not being touched by literally anyone else in any manner, that’s on them.

@withswords​ and @martinkhall​ I would not be diagnosed with scrupulosity. If anything, my anger problem prevents me from being pathologically focused on my misdeeds, even if that were possible.

Is there a significant enough African-descended population in Australia that when people say a person is “black”, you have to clarify whether you mean Aboriginal or African? Or is it automatically assumed you mean Aboriginal unless context makes it clear you’re talking about African people?

that’s a tough one, there’s always “blackfella” but you can only say that if you’re willing to sound like Crocodile Dundee, and given the influence of America over popular culture and since the majority of Australians live their lives without ever seeing someone of obvious Aboriginal descent it’s common to assume that “black” is short for “black American”.

the local African community is mostly first generation Somali and Sudanese and is typically referred to as such, although no doubt there are more vulgar epithets in use depending on what circles you move in; the only one I have heard is “skinnies” (!) over which I am still boggling (the Sudanese are very tall).

Regarding this whole gifted kid discourse, is it really such a problem to just let kids skip grades? You see those kids who are like 12 and they’re already in college. What’s wrong with that? That’s an extreme case but kids should be able to skip one or two grades if it’d be a better use of their time. And by the time you’re in middle school, you already start taking different classes than your peers. It seems like these are all we really need. Let kids skip grades and offer a wider curriculum.

I think there’s a place for a lot of different solutions, and that one can work. I’m skeptical of “grade skipping is the perfect solution in every case.”

One thing that gives me pause, for example, is the idea that a class of all different ages might vary wildly in maturity and experience levels. 

That would probably have been hard for me personally, for one (undiagnosed PTSD + a whole mess of triggers = intellectually ready to handle Depressing High School Reading quite young but not at all emotionally ready. When the adults don’t realize why that book has been bothering you off and on for two weeks and just tell you to buck up, it’s not a fun time.)

Is bitcoin basically just tulipmania? Like I have trouble understanding it as anything other than an insane speculative bubble because its actual uses (to facilitate deep web drug purchases or whatever) are so incredibly limited, yet whatever we joke, it has risen insanely in value since it was invented 10 years ago. One bitcoin did start out as worth like less than a cent. Why is it’s price in the thousands? Is there anything to it beyond tulipmania?

the fact that it has some uses definitely helps to keep it in circulation, although I think its use as a common currency for scams, extortion, and purchasing other varieties of cryptocurrency might outweigh its usage for drugs?

but yeah its primary value proposition is hedging against the collapse of the global economy, because nobody has noticed that will also destroy the blockchain by cutting off its physical substrate, I mean at least if you have a cellar full of gold it doesn’t disappear when someone nukes the internet.

I’m sure some prestigious military academy has probably churned out the most war criminals but thats cheating so limiting ourselves to civilian institutions, Id wager MIT might have produced more war criminals. Although Yale has produced like a bunch of US presidents, who should each count as like five war criminals.

you could loosen it slightly by saying Harvard has entertained more war criminals, whether it’s Kissinger (graduate, faculty member), Bush Jr. (Harvard as well as Yale), or Obama, but yeah you’d really have to include the elite educational institutions as a group.
