Postcard view of Lewis’s Holsapple House in Copake, New York, apparently in the early 1930s if the auto is an indication. Copake gets its name from nearby Copake Lake, “Copake” being derived from an early Native American word for “snake pond.”
The Holsapple House is long gone but the building survives and was expected to become a sports bar. In the image above, a familiar sight to New York drivers is visible in the center foreground: a cast iron state highway sign, of a type still used for historical markers throughout the state. Photo from an ebay listing.

Article contributed by Karen DiPeri, President, HMG+ I sat down with General Manager Kyleigh Zengen of The Greens at Copake Country Club to find out how the pandemic has impacted their restaurant and catering business. The below is an excerpt of our discussion. We are in the early phases of reopening, what positive and challenging behaviors have you noticed with guests that come to your venue?

#Congressman, @repantoniodelgado gives me hope for future. At his standing-room only town hall last night in #copake #newyork, he eloquently covered many topics on the minds of his constituents. From the need to address climate change, to fixing public and affordable education, inequality, immigration, citizens united and how money and lobbyists are destroying our democracy, and so much more. He says he ran for office to try to understand the broken system. He admits, “It’s much worse than advertised. It’s all about winning. Everything you say will be used against you so no one says anything. We have become so tribal that nothing gets done,” especially in two-year terms. (Terms need to be changed to four years so representatives have more time to implement change). But there is hope in these dark times. Delgado is the first #African American #congressman representing #newyork’s 19th district, where its citizens are 90% white and one third republican, independent and democrat. When an older man asked him about the #trump impeachment and #Hillary’s emails, the crowd booed the man. @repantoniodelgado quieted the irate residents to let the man speak, “we live in a democracy,” he gently reminded the room. He respectfully told the man there was an investigation into Hillary’s emails and there were no crimes and the case is closed. His parting words were, “vote, engage in your local community and talk to one another, especially if you don’t agree with what they say. It’s the only way to make a change.” It’s how he said he was given the chance to lead. (at Town of Copake) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4-4BUTpHwk/?igshid=sjlyyei2lfid
#Ice #Fishing with Arnie Albright, 51, owner of Sunrise #Landscape, #Copake, #newyork I drive by Arnie and his pals all #winter. Yesterday, knowing that spring will be here in a few weeks, and I might never see them again, I just had to stop the car and ask “Why?” (at Copake, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu2KjNQhqY-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=y0o4drlj957t
