The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin -- Chapter 7
This is the fifth book I have read to the internet, the others (completed) being Holes by Louis Sachar,Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar, Loser by Jerry Spinelli, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling. There is a masterpost to the other Westing Game recordings here. My intention has been centered around reading “juvenile” chapter books for use as a coping tool which could capture someone’s attention but not require a lot of brainpower, but they’re really here for anyone to use for any reason! I post 10-15 minute recordings Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Send me a message if you have any questions, feedback, or anything else :)
Instead of Smoking Try... -snapping a rubber band -drinking water out of a straw -squeezing a stress ball -breath deeply -keep telling yourself in 10 more minutes until the craving is gone -Play a game on your phone -clean something -practice self-care
I think I've just gotten through a hell-ride of computer trouble without punching anything whatsoever. That's new. There's something especially unbearable about computer trouble. I think it's the failure frequency - trying so many different approaches in such a short time and failing at ALL OF THEM*. I used to punch empty water bottles across the room to keep my hands off the more expensive stuff.
Anyway, no violence this time, thanks to the accompanying Night Vale relistening binge. Crying and procrastinating, yes, but no hitting of innocent objects. Either wtnv is really good for me, or it's eating my very soul.
* (obviously, just because the thing one is looking for is always the last thing one finds)
[Art] isn’t a career choice. It’s self-medication that over time precipitates the madness it was meant to ward off.
