Meet our Indigenous Rarámuri allies from Mexico's Copper Canyon!
For centuries, the Rarámuri have been subsistence farmers, utilizing the springs, arroyos, and rivers that carve their ancestral canyons. But now, logging, development, and climate change are threatening the Rarámuri’s water resources—and their very survival. Water pollution has led to an increase in water-borne diseases. As a result, Rarámuri communities have some of the highest infant mortality rates on the continent. Cultures of Resistance Films director @iara_lee has been excited to support Copper Canyon Alliance, an off-grid organic farm providing produce, seeds, tools, and support to people in need in the Copper Canyon region, to help support the constructions of water reservoirs for five Rarámuri communities. The reservoirs will provide life-saving clean water to schools, farms, and villages.
Here are some photos of reservoir construction from this fall. All of the projects are led and owned by the Rarámuri!
