I mean, I don't go here really, but I did go to BBC Sherlock for long enough to tell you I have been dreading this for months now because history has taught me that once queer and women fall in love with media written by straight men they will rush to undo any thread of loving, consensual queerness as a means to "man up" their narrative/product. But that's my pov, a jaded old queer. I really hope that's not what is going one here but—the writing is on the wall for me.
The thing that really gets me, though is like, it’s different than Sherlock. That was only ever queerbaiting. It was clear they never intended to make that canon and they tried to stamp out the headcanons while keeping the queer audience but like, Symbrock IS and HAS BEEN canon for YEARS. Like, they call each other “my love” and “my darling”. They consider themselves married and have a child together. This isn’t just teasing an idea then backing out when people actually take it seriously. This is blatantly erasing an established, canon queer pairing.
This isn’t “oh the lgbt community is getting interested in this, better make sure they don’t mistake it for love!” it’s “This has been a canon queer couple for YEARS but why don’t we just throw that away because we can?”
