Mariah Carey Triumphs in Copyright Case Over 'All I Want for Christmas Is You'
Mariah Carey won a copyright lawsuit over All I Want for Christmas Is You.
A judge ruled that the 1989 country song by Vince Vance and the Valiants was not similar enough to Carey's 1994 hit to support infringement claims.
Songwriters Andy Stone and Troy Powers had sought $20 million, but the court dismissed their case, citing significant differences in melody, lyrics, and musical elements.
Carey argued that any similarities were common holiday themes.
The judge also ordered the plaintiffs to cover part of Carey’s legal fees due to irrelevant claims in their filings.
