I’m changing the name of The Nether, its districts and a few of the characters who live there. They were made around seven years ago when I was thirteen, and I didn’t realise then that ‘The Netherworld’ was such a common name in literature and movies alike. And I’m changing the districts and character names because, well, my tastes have altered quite a bit and they just don’t have the same sounding impact on me anymore. (some of them don’t fit in with the world at all.) 

I’ll be posting the new names and changing it on the blog as soon as I have them figured out.

Ravens and Regrets

The Darkness had been vanquished from his soul. By all logic he should feel happy, or as close to happy as the immortal man could get, but no. He couldn’t sleep, and a constant state of unrest had wound itself right around his gut, prodding him at all hours, whispering in the dark to let him know that this wasn’t over. Guilt. He was feeling guilt for what had befallen the were-raven. Out of this whole mess it was she who had suffered the most, and he had tossed her aside, nothing more than used equipment that had served its purpose in his life. 

Facing what the darkness had done through his hands was too much. Why do that when the problems could be removed with drink and a hostile personality. His son was dead, and the raven was gone. Yet he had done so much worse in his time on earth, without the darkness pulling at his strings. Why now did he feel remorse. And why was it a persistent child, refusing to be ignored?

The man before all of this could turn those emotions away.

He seated himself at the bar of some indiscriminate club, far away from his thoughts. The battle-field was the best place for him right now, but the Netherworld was too much of a sore reminder. He ordered a bottle of red wine and retreated to a table in the back. A comfortable place in the dark where he could watch those around him.

“Eeeeh, uhm… Yes, in a way!” she sputtered, quickly grabbing the tall man’s hand. “Whatever happens, DON’T.LET.GO., okay?” she instructed, but never waited for an affirmation of this.

Instead she got up, a flaming arrow missing her only by inches, and, pulling him with her, ran.

Only two or three steps, though. Then, all of a sudden, the scenery changed. The mossy ruins disappeared, being replaced by another ruin, drifting high in the skies, with odd symbols carved into the dark stone-walls and colorful clouds swirling around them. In the distance other islands like theirs, floating in thin air, could be seen, each with a little ruin of it’s own.

Having a bit of a hard time slowing down, Cora and Eli almost ran straight into the abyss ahead of them. In fact they would have, if the ground had not suddenly expanded, adding row after row of of old, weathered paving stones right under their feet.

Coming to a halt with her free arm waving for balance, Cora turned towards her companion.

“OY! That was close! You okay?”

Eli’s head began to spin as they ran, but he kept a hand in Cora’s, just as she said. “Cora! What’s happening!” he cried as he suddenly was pulled back from the edge of... something. He was an Angel, he knew strange places but this....was very different. As a creature who had never left Earth, this was .... definitely not Earth.

“You might as well come out, little bird. Skulking outside the gate does neither of us any good.” Andy didn’t look up from her cards, an oracle reading. Clouds, Shaman and Rainbow lay infront of her, along with the six of swords. “Come in.”
