As summer began to fade away and the comfort of autumn seeped into the air, Lukas had believed he’d happened upon the perfect time to walk to the beach. In such mild weather, there was sure to be scarcely a single person sprawled across the sand, licking ice cream as it dripped down their tanned arms. Unfortunately, Lukas had severely underestimated the pure spontaneity of New Zealand weather and about five minutes after he’d arrived the skies decided it was the perfect moment to vomit endless amounts of gushing rain. And so, much like the only other time he’d been caught in the rain, Lukas was absolutely saturated.
Chills ran throughout his body, his fingers feeling near paralyzed as they lethargically shifted from their frozen posture. His hostel was not particularly far away from where he was - not near enough to really justify catching an uber - but it was also just too far to not be an arduous ordeal.
His contemplations were quickly brought to a shattering halt as the sound of another person talking in his general direction popped up out of seemingly nowhere.
