So I had a concept for a catto, was a bit anxious about posting something new on my blog but it seems my recent branching out hasn't had any dire effects on the blog, so here goes.
Introducing:
Cordium
A fictional material from the Project Wingman universe.
(Behold, probably the highest resolution image of a catto ever posted - 1080 x 1080. This was more a test of my determination to keep drawing than anything, turns out elementcattos does something for my brain that allows me to draw... a lot. Maybe because it's the fusion of two things I like? I like cats. I like elements. Yeah. This boy's gonna be a nightmare for anyone else who tries to draw them, but I don't mind simplifying the design. This is just the master version that other interpretations are based on.)
also (slaps cordium's head) this boy can fit so many godamn pixels
SYNOPSIS
Cordium (He/They) is a uranium-like material from the Project Wingman universe. It is a chemical with many uses from civilian to military. It can be used in geothermal or nuclear power stations for the production of electricity. It can also be dissolved in water, for use in compact Cordium reactors in both naval and airships, or even small fighter aircraft such as the PW Mk.1.
Cordium's chemical formula is unknown. However, it is known to exhibit esoteric properties largely unexplainable to science even six hundred years following the Calamity.
Cordium was first produced during the Calamity - a global scale apocalyptic event where every fault line and volcano on Earth suddenly became active, including the Yellowstone supervolcano. Following Calamity, the material was found and used to restore power grids and kept humanity alive until the volcanic winter faded.
Ever since, it has been crucial in every facet of life following the Calamity.
Cordium as a material is esoteric - a largely metallic mineral, yet also acidic and toxic to humans. Cordium storage and extraction facilities also tend to have large supplies of an unnamed 'neutraliser agent' to make Cordium inert. It is also readily able to spill into the environment through Cordium dust getting into the air - generally when out and about in Cascadia and the Federation, it's important to wear a protective mask.
Speak of, access to Cordium defines the power of a nation. Following Calamity, the most powerful nation was the Pacific Federation, which dominates the Ring of Fire, as well as the region around Yellowstone from dominating Cascadia, a nation on the west coast of North America.
Cordium allowed the Federation to expand through military might, particularly through its use in railguns. Cordium is also magnetic, and can be used as both an ammunition and a power source in railguns. This military expansion led to Cascadia declaring independence and fighting a civil war against the Federation, during said war, mercenaries would be deployed, including one particular fighter known as Monarch (more on that later)
Cordium dust also shines a brilliant orange, similar to a flare.
Cordium's chemical formula is unknown, so I came up with one of my own. (Not sure if this is possible, but it's an intentionally esoteric mineral)
Behold, the abomination, Cordium, H4CAl2CrCo2Fe3LiOPuSiSU.
Base Cordium isn't too dangerous, of course, it is radioactive, but it doesn't undergo spontaneous fission. However, his sibling, Cordium-235 (named for the isotope of Uranium) is much more dangerous due to their tendency to undergo spontaneous fission, due to his uranium atom converting into Uranium-236 from excess neutrons, which can undergo spontaneous fission. The three neutrons released by the fission of this uranium atom can then go on to produce Plutonium-240, which continues the fission chain going. They can also react with the cobalt atoms to produce Cobalt-60, leaving deadly fallout wherever the reaction occurs.
Cordium weaponry can also have the Uranium-238 replaced by an atom of Curium-248, which is significantly more likely to undergo spontaneous fission.
PERSONALITY
Cordium is an ace pilot, skilled fighter and generally acts like Crimson 1 from Project Wingman. As such, he is generally quite irritable, quick to make assumptions and quite bipolar. Usually, they are logical, cunning, forward-thinking and a well-respected fighter. However, when stressed or triggered, his personality completely flips and they enter a state of bloodlust, tending to attack other cattos.
He is also medically insane, tending to believe as if the world is actually the world of Project Wingman, swearing an devoted, unwaivering, unquestioning loyalty to the Pacific Federation. Often they can be heard muttering 'pax federation' under his breath.
They speak like he is talking through a radio, somewhat static-y, distant and unclear. Their voice sounds identical to the Federation Peacekeeper Crimson 1. When he speaks, instead of a normal dialogue box, their speech is stylised like dialogue in Project Wingman or Ace Combat, your pick.
He has no real friends due to their tendency to act quite violent towards others. Even those elements that tend to be more malevolent, such as Arsenic, tend not to interact with him as a result.
However, they do also have a rarer silly side, largely due to his radioactive nature. Their favourite food is raw microwave mac and cheese and coffee. He spends his free time obsessing over cartography and geology. They can recite the names of every major volcano in the Pacific Ring of Fire and has a large print of global fault lines and volcanoes on his wall. They also like the Half-Life series of games. Much like almost all other cattos, he is generally a bit anxious when meeting new people and hates phone calls. They prefer to contact people through radio, much to the dismay of the few cattos who stay in contact with him.
APPEARANCE
Cordium, as a metal, has a slight metallic sheen and a grey base. However, they are also largely orange due to his glow. He shares a similar orange glow around them similar to Neon. They also have glowing orange eartips similar to Erbium, and winged eyelashes (you'll get the joke later)
He also has spiked fur around their neck from their crystalline formations, similar to Iron and long hair down his back like Yttrium.
However, his most distinctive feature is their outfit. He wears a flight helmet and respirator, which their ears poke out the top of. On this helmet is the flag of the Pacific Federation. His helmet also features a large, comical radio antenna.
They also wear a strap around his torso, which has the flags of the Pacific Federation and Cascadia, as well as the emblems of Monarch, Crimson Squadron and the Sicario Mercenary Organisation. Attached to this strap, on their back, is a large railgun which he can remove and use (albeit causing significant damages to the surroundings in the process). They also have wings similar to Rhenium, although more stylised to look like those of the F-14 Tomcat. These wings feature tracers that produce Cordium dust, leaving a glowing trail of orange, radioactive, toxic glitter wherever he goes. Their tail is a carrier landing hook.
He is also colourblind (protanopia). They tend to see reds, oranges and greens as yellow, and is unable to see normally yellow objects.
As such, when he was first introduced to the cattos, he mistook Rhenium for looking similar to Monarch's (his arch-nemesis) plane. (Monarch flies with a light grey, dark grey and gold colour scheme)
Their eyes are also HUDs, which display information on those around him in the same style as the Project Wingman HUD. (see below)
If anyone else would like to expand on the idea of this silly catto (he is my child now please be nice to them) then please do, I'm just working with my average knowledge of science and wikipedia and a game wiki which doesn't delve into specifics here.
Note that I do not condone the actions of my child, Cordium, but I'm not going to stop them either. He will be an agent of chaos.
Here's a gallery of Cordium with and without their many accessories.
As with other suggestions, here's the obligatory tag:
@elementcattos (apologies if this is unwanted, I would just like to share my ideas.)
