So i've had too much shit to do today and didn't get the chapter close enough to post anything but have some rambles for the future of some of the romances instead
Gren's known Corvus since they were 22 and 16, respectively. They were friends early on, quickly became tight-knit from their mutual loyalty to Amaya. At some point after they hit 25 and 19, Gren's mind was somewhere else when he looked over and saw Corvus smile at him and went oh. Oh. Oh he's not a gangly teenager anymore. Oh, hell, he grew up pretty, didn't he? And he never considered Gren an authority figure, really, since he worked for Amaya personally rather than within the chain of command.
He hasn't done anything about it, because they are friends and he's well aware that Corvus is still working out some things about who he is and what he wants in life. But he was honest about it when Corvus asked him once what the look was about, he admitted that he'd . . . Noticed how nicely Corvus filled out as he got older. Corvus was similarly honest about how Gren was . . . part of the reason he was having to question himself and what exactly it is that draws him to people.
They're not a couple yet, officially. Gren's solidly interested. Corvus was still trying to figure out what he was feeling, exactly, for Gren when all this plot started. He'll be figuring it out when he gets him out of the dungeon, and confessing things on their way to go talk to Amaya about what really happened with the boys and assassins. I don't want to give up too much exact plot details, but I mean, y'all know the basic plotline because this is canon divergence not a total AU. Corvus is a bit awkward because he's never really done . . . relationships or anything like this before. Gren's had a few formal relationships, but he's obviously not been committed. They're going to be awkward from inexperience, but both really wholesome about it as they learn to navigate this new aspect to their established relationship.
Amaya is going to be absolutely delighted. She's been happy about her boys bonding since she first adopted (unofficially) Corvus, and this is just a bonus that means the feral one is going to be vanishing less because he's now attached to her golden retriever partner.
Also unrelated headcanon but Corvus sneaks up on people a lot by accident, but he rarely manages to sneak up on Amaya. She's already deaf, so his efforts to be quiet that help him sneak up on most people don't do shit with her. She pays attention to an entirely different set of senses.
