It’d been a particularly cold winter in New York, so Max was beyond grateful when he could finally sit outside, perched underneath his favourite tree on the campus courtyard, wearing a t-shirt and watching the students hustling by. Or, more specifically, one student. It wasn’t a secret that Max had been avoiding Cori like the plague ever since his mother had finally convinced him to stop being stupid and to just go to school, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t look for her everywhere he went still. He just... didn’t approach her. Watching her sit across from him in the courtyard now, he was sure that if anyone noticed they’d think he looked like an absolute creep, the way he was staring from her then to his sketchbook, sketching her out as she was busy looking at her phone, she seemed frozen in time, he couldn’t help but take the opportunity. She was still as beautiful as ever, her hair was a bit different but it was a minor difference, and even though it shocked him when he first noticed, it just made it easier to spot her in a crowd. Just when he was finishing up some of the final details, Max glanced up at her - and made direct eye contact. It was probably obvious what he was doing, she knew him well enough, and if he’d just been walking through he would’ve pretended they didn’t look at each other at all, but he couldn’t avoid this. He raised his hand slowly, to nervously wave at her, feeling stupid and sort of childish, stuck between getting up and walking away and wondering if he should approach her, the whole time just continuing to wave as he thought of what to do.
