Squishing squash bugs.
Last year I posted about some annoying little stink bugs invading my garden- primarily on my squash plants and cucumber plants. Well they are back! Upon further research though, I have come to the conclusion that they are more than likely a "squash bug" aka Coridae. Either way, either bug- I hate them. I only saw one adult, and that little brat lay like a gagillion eggs. Everything I read says to pop the eggs with my fingers. I heave at that idea! I'd rather just unearth the entire plant and toss her in the trash!
I fought with the egg laying beast yesterday with some soap water. I think I won, but I could not find her crusty lil carcass yesterday and was too grossed out to look for it further. They are so creepy looking!! and their young look like aliens!!
A natural predator is apparently the tachnid fly, which can be attracted to a garden by planting calendula, daisies, fennel, dill, and mustard greens. I think I can totally do this.
Another option is to put diatomaceous earth (a mined natural product), which can be put on the soil. It works like boric acid on roaches. Just a powder to us humans, but to those little creepers, it is a landmine of razorblades waiting to slice them to pieces as they walk across it. Sounds good to me.
Let the battle begin.
BTW, here is my previous post:
