“i won’t let go”
corina saving charlotte in season four during the rumbling. the two polar opposites.
this was it. charlotte had gotten stuck trying to deploy her ODM gear across the skeleton of the founding titan, getting stuck and unable to pull herself back up. had it been any other situation, reiner would have been right there hoisting her back up, making sure she was unscathed but . . . he was kind of in the midst of the whole fight and in titan form, unable to help. everyone else was off fighting, leaving lottie shouting and struggling to pull herself up with the one gear line that was wrapped around one of the ribs of the skeleton.
“this is the end.. dear god, if you can hear me, i’m sorry!” lottie shouted, straining, continuing to try and pull herself up to no avail. a defeated groan escaped her mouth as she dangled, spinning around in the air. breathing heavily, she looked around at the chaos unfolding all around. lottie was ready to unhook herself from her gear and allow herself to drop and just hope for the best. just then, she felt a tug from above, her head shooting up to see a familiar black haired female trying to pull her up.
“CORINA!” lottie shouted, staring up at the woman, tears welling in her eyes. corina waved down at her, sleeves rolled up as she tugged at the line
“lottie, i’m gonna have to cut the line, you’ll drop but i’ll drop right down and catch you!” corina shouted over the fighting. the blonde’s eyes went wide as she shook her head. while she had been debating dropping on her own, as the thought of it really set in now, she didn’t want to do it. she began to swing back and forth as corina sawed away at the rope with a knife, gritting her teeth. the wire was tough but they’d learned it was cutable by knife, it just took time. after a few minutes, those minutes seeming like hours to charlotte who was nearly in tears as she watched the chaos around her, she watched jean planting the explosives on the head of the founding titan, causing the blonde’s eyes to get wide.
“rina, we gotta hurry! we’re way too close! we’ll get taken out with the blast!” charlotte yelled, looking up at corina who was nearly done cutting through the wire. with one more sawing motion, the wire snapped in two, sending charlotte plummeting down, the girl screaming and flailing. corina swallowed hard, anchoring down her gear before jumping down after the girl. “CORINA, PLEASE!” she screamed. as lottie thought it was over, corina grabbed her, yanking her up and onto her back, staring towards the head of the titan. charlotte gripped onto corina, wide eyed and trembling. as she went to thank the raven haired girl, jean slammed down the explosive box’s detonator handle, the explosives going off.
“SHIT!” corina yelled, unable to cover her eyes in time, the bright light sending her reeling back as she scrambled to find to clutch on her gear to shoot back up. only issue now was she was seeing spots everywhere and couldn’t see all that well anymore. luckily, charlotte had managed to shield her own eyes, having buried her face into the back of corina’s shoulders. meanwhile, corina was still scrambling to find the clutch. “lottie, lottie, find the button, please, i can’t see!” she cried, tears forming in her eyes. it wasn’t like she had fully lost her vision, everything was now just very blurry and distorted. panicked and confused, charlotte lifted her head, reaching over corina and grabbing the handles of her gear, slamming down on the clutch, the two shooting back up.
“corina, oh, i’m so sorry, please forgive me!” lottie cried, holding the woman up as she examined her. corina batted at her hands, squirming, trying to get away. it wasn’t that she was mad nor upset with lottie, she just couldn’t see and therefore couldn’t see if jean was alright after the explosion.
“everything’s so blurry and distorted right now, i can’t tell what’s going on.” corina said quietly, staring at charlotte, trembling slightly. the blonde woman gripped the other’s shoulders tightly, making sure she stayed in one place.
“i can see jean, he’s fine, he’s okay.” she assured her, to which corina hesitantly nodded, rubbing her eyes. “we gotta get you out of here though, if you can’t see well, we’re in trouble. oh, rina..” lottie whined. “you’re gonna need glasses now.” she said, causing corina to sigh and nod once again.
“i figured as much. but that’s not the biggest concern right now. the biggest concern is finishing this fight.” corina stated, turning to face the remainder of the battle. “i can still somewhat see, just not the greatest.”
“you’re not planning on still fighting, are you?”
“who said i was gonna back down just because my vision has been hindered?” corina said, gripping the handles of her blades, causing charlotte to stare wide eyed at her.
“corina, you can hardly see long distance, i dont think that its the grea-“ she was cut off by corina shaking her head.
“you don’t back down as a scout, charlotte. no matter what happens, you trek on.” she said. “dedicate your heart.” corina said proudly, her fist over her heart as she looked to charlotte who nodded.
“dedicate your heart..” charlotte mumbled. with that, corina saluted her before deploying her gear, joining back into the fight for humanity. “thank you.” she said quietly once corina had left her side, heavy tears welling in her eyes before slipping out and rolling down her cheeks. she owed corina her life.
