Maize days: U.S. corn crop expected to be biggest in 75 years
That's a lot of freaking corn: Back in 1937, an estimated 97.2 million acres of corn were planted. This year, in an effort to take advantage of higher prices, lower standing supply, and weaknesses in other base crops like soybeans, the corn total is expected to top analysts expectations of 94.72 million acres — as long as the weather holds up and the yield stays high.
