Thinking about the Modern Faerie Tales again- specifically Cornelius Stone.

These books were a little before my time, and sometimes I wonder what it was like being a gay teenager in 2004 and getting to read a YA novel where somebody like you was a main character with a lot of personality and depth instead of a stereotype. Those were rare ten years later when I was a teenager. Not nonexistent- we were fortunate- but they were not well written, and you could forget about opens gay mains. They were side characters who gotten written out and died tragically.

Not Corny.

Corny straight up KILLED the person who harmed him. Corny got a relationship that was complex, and well written, and definitely included some neuroses because he and Luis both had a lot of baggage, but like... believably so. And they LIVED.

The Modern Faerie Tales aren't perfect, but I'm glad they exist.
