This is one of the scenes that always confused me. Because I would just assume that Ed was wrong here, that it was a real philosopher’s stone and it just ran out of power.

But I think they mention later in this chapter that it was a fake? Unless they were lying to Cornello.

Like, when they run out of souls, you can’t use them anymore, they have limited storage of energy to transmute, so when you run out, they would break. Just like how a homunculus would die when they run out.
