Hi! I've been following you for a while and enjoy every work that you've done so far! (Especially To Belong 👌) I have a couple questions about your To Belong Children (including the overall lore) First off, How did you decide what animals each character changes into? Is it based on personalities? And also, How old are the main cast when they changed into their respective animal forms? I hope these aren't too overwhelming for you, I just enjoy the shapeshifting aspect And I love your work!

Even though their personalities do fit their animal forms, they weren’t the main reasoning for them. Terren is a horse simply because I loved the idea of him being able to give rides to his siblings (but then I went and gave him chronic back pain sooo…). Frey is a wolf mostly just because I really really like wolves. XD

Isaia on the other hand has been tricky. In the very first draft of the story she was a dog, but after started working on the crossovers version I didn’t like that idea anymore so I saved her animal reveal to later. When I then developed her backstory more I decided to go with a lioness for the crossover, but I knew that it wasn't canon for the original version. I am now 80% sure what her official animal form is, but that will remain a secret. ;)PS: Jeremiah is a stag 100% because of The Great Prince. Terren was around 3 when he had his first change. Frey was like barely 1, so super young. Isaia had her first human transformation at around 1.5-2.

Just a genuine question I hope you don't mind. I know you said that the wild bettas you have are able to stay in one tank together, so I was wondering if they even get as aggressive as the popular betta splendens? I know that they're generally more healthy than the splendens counterpart. Is there ever a time where they need to be separated due to aggression?

Hi, there! :) I don’t mind at all! <3

Yes, they can and do get just as aggressive at times. Through personal experience and some anecdotes from other owners, I personally say that it’s better to actually keep bettas in the splendens complex, such as Betta imbellis, smaragdina, and mahachaiensis, on their own. Although nearly every “official” caresheet will say you can keep a pair safely in something as little as a 5 gallon, that has not been my personal experience, despite providing plenty of hides and my usual husbandry, and I already have regrets.

The wild splendens complex are still aggressive and best kept to themselves except for breeding. Some say with much larger setups, lots of cover, and one male to three females for the more aggressive bubblenesters, it’s doable, but there’s always that risk.

However, other smaller bubblenesters, such as Betta hendra, are said to be less aggressive and more easy to keep together. Yet, I have not owned hendra and cannot speak from personal experience. I can only speak from my personal experience of owning smaragdina, mahachaiensis, and albimarginata.

Even within the mouthbrooding species, aggression varies. I’ve had minimal issues with my Betta albimarginata. However, I’ve heard some of the larger species can still get quite aggressive.

Given that wild bettas are still not that common in the hobby except as stock and trophies, I think there’s a lot we need to learn to give them the best care. It’s also important to always pay attention to your individual fish as well.

I Miss Gushing About My Friends So...

@sunflowerpin - You are such a determined, skilled, hard working persob even in your lowest times I see this burning fire in you like a passion that can never be quelled. I feel so happy to have met a person like you, you inspire me to be better everyday. I literally cannot envision my life without you, thick or thin like a dynamic duo I've been so happy to be by your side for so long. You are not a star you are a burning sun blaring light like a super Nova, i will always be in awe of your strength.

@cornyzombie - I don't know how to even begin on how amazing you are, you're this kind, empathetic, wonderful, encouraging sweet bean of a person that has no right to exist on this cruel planet. You're the ultimate embodiment of comfort and caring in a friendship, how short time feels from when we started chatting as fans of Chris to being best friends for life. You make me want to be a better kinder person, a person worth bring friends with. I'm so happy i met you.

@telltalesheepers - Again it's hard to know where to start, our friendship has been like a journey One i can look back upon (and i do) with smiles. Sheep you are such an amazing person you're like the embodiment of hope. I never knew i could have faith in people again until i met you, you've shown me the better aspects of humanity and even listened when things were rough. I'm so proud of you and your efforts, you are a courageous wonderful person. I am so happy to be friends with you and gush and mush about so much.

You three may not physically be present in my life but i look at my phone happy to see messages from you. I read our conversations back for hours, i think of you everyday and how lucky i am to have met you. You deserve the world and i wish with all my heart i could give you three everything. Even though i cannot despite my wishes i hope you all think our friendships are worthwhile the way i do from my point of view.

Since you asked me about my apprentice Aspen, how about you tell us about YOUR fan apprentice? >:3

Of course I’d ask, I just -chin in hands- when ever I learn anyone plays the arcana! <3 Alright let’s go >:)  

My apprentice’s name is Ælwen (pronounced Ah-ehl-when). In his early-mid twenties he’s 5′8″ and has a penchant for trouble, intentional or not.

Ælwen comes from far away lands, which he misses dearly, so he’s never been good with heat but he doesn’t mind the cold too much. He is absolutly the type to go outside in the snow with little on, just to impress others and prove the “I’m nordic, this is summer for me” point. It’s not unlikely to hear him mumble/talk his mother tongue to himself when he does things and thinks no one can really hear. He categorically refuses to teach it to anyone and rarely talks in dephts about where he’s from unless he’s close with someone. So Lucio doesn’t know jacksquat, Nadia would know very little, Asra and Muriel knows a bit, Portia and Julian know the most. He’s very emotion driven and is more about practice than theory. He acts with the heart on most occasion unless someone gives him a reason to put walls up and be more rational. Ælwen is very hands on and resourceful. He likes to learn but reading books make him fall asleep easily.  He would much prefer being out in nature or with animals than public although he likes making people smile and laugh.The first time Ælwen met Julian, he didn’t know what to make of him but despite what everyone said about Dr.Devorak, he had the feeling something was off. When they met again at the rowdy raven, it’s then that Ælwen took notice at how gorgeous he was. From then on he got even more attached to the charming ‘murderous’ doctor, for better or for worse.Real fast this is the most I can think about for right now!
