I do think Josh and Stu's relationship would be kinda toxic but they're both horrible people so it balances it out. Stu enables Josh's violent behavior; his false therapy sessions or whatever just make everything worse and he's fine with that because Stu doesn't think of the consequences of his actions — he is just a hologram. There's not much people can do other than kill his physical body (or what remains), which he knows will never happen because Josh is too attached to him.

Josh is a controlling, angry person and I think he's just latching onto Stu because he's a reminder of Kronish. Also he feels guilty and thinks keeping him alive excuses his actions. He is probably someone he can be vulnerable to but Stu is pretty shallow. Like in s2, he only helps Tiger if it helps him or he's assisting her for his own gain.

I dunno, somehow this freak has a weird toxic relationship with a hologram. Only in Future Man lmfao
