Merlin blinked at her, surprised by her statement. He’d once thought they stood a chance together, but after everything went downhill and all of the betrayals between them both, he didn’t think she would ever want anything to do with him again. So he gave it some thought and he didn’t get back with her until a few days later because he really had to think about it. Arthur was going to be so angry at him for this, but he didn’t care. He cared about her, he always had done, it was why he had finally stopped listening to the Great Dragon about Morgana after awhile. They met in a discreet hallway and Merlin had to resist the urge to take her hands in his own in case she changed her mind again.

He ended up finding himself saying, “Do you want to try? With me, I mean? Not for power or glory or anything like that, none of that ever mattered to me when it came to you. I just have always liked you for you and I’m truly sorry for all of the harm I’ve caused between us.”
