Alexis froze, a cup of coffee in each hand. Sure, she was wearing one of Hunter's over-sized t-shirt, and had just been making coffee for the two of them in Hunter's kitchen after coming from his bed room, wearing only said shirt, but that didn't mean she was ready for an actual relationship. One with dates and domesticity. She didn't know how to do relationships, not since Ryan's death. Not since joining the academy and becoming part of the force. Her work hours were ridiculous and she was, well, too preoccupied with her brother's case to have someone in her life. Other than Hunter. Except he was her partner and that was completely different, a work relationship. Until he wormed his way into every aspect of her life and became one of the most important people she knew. And if she got involved with him, more than she already was, he'd be in danger, thanks to her and her need to find justice for her brother. It wasn't until the ceramic mug began to burn her hand that she snapped out of her thoughts. Putting down the coffee, she realized she'd been silent for too long. "You're asking me out." It wasn't a question. It was a stalling tactic.Trying to give herself more time to figure out what to say, how to protect him. "Hunter I.." She bit her lip and avoided eye contact. "I can't."

"I don’t know how to live without you."

"And you think I know how to live without you! You can't do that again. Don't you dare take a bullet for me again, because soon enough your luck is going to run out and they're not going to just graze your vital organs and the ambulance might be half a minute later and then I'll be left alone with no idea what to do with myself because you're gone. I need you Hunter, and I don't think you even realize it."

"Do you love me?"

"I'd be stupid if I didn't, and we both know I'm not stupid. Does that answer your question?"
