Cosina CX-1, Kodak Elite Chrome 200
Race Course Road, Singapore, Sunday 3rd September 2015, 10:30 pm
As usual, I find myself in Little India with my family, Farah and my camera. This collection has a certain sense of loss personally because the camera that I used here I have lost. I was very fond of this camera and looking at these photos feels like looking through the eyes of a forgone friend.
This roll of expired role of Kodak Elite Chrome though gives very interesting blue green overtones and in low light or artificial light we get these hauntingly stark images. The lane we walked past had a makeshift market of sorts selling vegetables to the local indian foreign workers who live in the area.
While the wares they had looked local, I can only imagine what dishes these staples were destined to be. Within that there is a divide, and in that divide I find in myself a hunger to know more, to see more, to learn of these people. Yet the photos that came (in their bright palates) make sure that I know that sometimes, no matter how well you think you know your country (no mater how much you want to know), that there will be certain spaces where you will never be part of, that you will never truly know. Which should be acceptable to us because this inability to completely familiar (to be completely in control) is essential to remind us that we will always need to be open, need to be accepting, to remain willing to take in.
