Makeup Masterpost Hello hi yes makeup is one of my special interests so I'm making a masterpost for anyone who wants to get in to it but has NO idea where to even start:
• A cheap set of brushes (even like a $15 set from walmart or kmart will do) • Get yourself some rubbing alcohol, isopropyl is the most common and the cheapest, you can clean your brushes with some alcohol + paper towel • Some super glue - just in general handy and also brushes break and fall apart but for the most part they're pretty easy to just glue back together •Liquid makeup will always have an expiry(normally on the bottle) and shouldn't be shared with other people bc of germs (unfortunately yes, even mascara counts as a liquid) • In cases where the expiry says 6m or 12m it's 6 months or 12 months from opening the product • if you *do* have to share, clean the brush or implement between people • Powder makeup can and will last you years, same thing just be sure to give it a gentle wipe down with alcohol every now and again • Primer isn't a *SUPER* necessary product unless you know you're going to be wearing heavy stage or costume makeup, and often just a regular concealer will offer you the same texture to work with • When shopping for skin coloured makeup, often your hand and your face are the same shade, so a quick little wipe on your hand should tell you if it's the right shade for you • When testing eyeshadows, get a bit on your finger and wipe across your wrist. A nice good formula should be a smooth and consistent texture and colour, a nasty formula will often be "chalky", chunky, and inconsistent, often this is what will cause a lot of "fallout" from eyeshadow (the shadow falling from your eye when you blink or move) • Makeup is almost ALWAYS marked up in price, cheaper doesn't always mean nasty so don't feel like you'll need to blow your wad just to get a good formula or something that agrees with your skin. • Go out and test makeup in person(for allergy and texture reasons) and then go online and search for that product; often places like Beauty Bay will offer deep discounts. • Your summer and winter shade will likely be different, often though not different enough that you'll have to fork out for 2 foundations/concealers • Makeup wipes and micellar water my beloved (Micellar you can also buy in bigger bottles at chemists and normally for a discount) • For a heavier face of makeup, a squalene cleanser and warm water will remove it • Concealer is normally for blemishes, under eyes, and in the folds of your nostrils. In a pinch tho you can apply it full face as a foundation (i know i have before lmaoo) • I know it's tempting but try your best not to fall asleep in your makeup, not only for your skins sake but sometimes makeup is harder to get out of pillowcases and other bedding • It's always best to wash your face and moisturise before putting on product, even just a wash with a mini towel, dry, and moisturise will provide a much nicer texture to work with • Read the ingredients of your product, some companies are still putting things like Talc in makeup. • Ideally you want your products free of PEG (polyethylene glycols), Talc, and Cruelty. • Beauty blenders are ultimately just sponges so don't be paying wild prices for them, no matter the fancy shape. I guarantee the chemist no name brand beauty blenders are just as good • I find beauty blenders are quite coarse, so I run them under hot water and give them a good fat squeeze, it provides a better texture + a tiny bit of water often means the makeup goes a bit further • My inbox is pretty much always open, I answer when I have the spoons so if you're a newbie + want help I'm happy to lend a hand! • There is no wrong or right "way" to do makeup.
