Thinking Thoughts. What if, modern day greek mythology au where Jayce is an amateur astronomer and astro-photographer and also an atheist. He doesn't believe in God or gods. Viktor is the greek god of stars Astraeus. He has an injury from the war between the Titans and Gods that never healed (thinking about how Hephaestus had an injury from being cast out by Hera that never healed because it was inflicted by a god). Mel is the goddess of dawn Eos (Astraeus and Eos are married, and so therefore so are Viktor and Mel).

They spend their time among mortals, playing at being human. In general they are pretty obsolete. The other gods don't respect them, seeing them as minor and irrelevant. There are other forces at work that do their job for them. One evening, at dusk, they are walking along a beach on the coast of a small town and come across Jayce, who is setting up his telescope. They strike up a conversation with him and learn that it is set to be a prime night to photograph some of the cosmic wonders. They ask if they can stick around and of course Jayce is delighted that they are interested and agrees.

The next night they return and spend another sleepless night admiring the cosmos with Jayce. They begin to take a special liking to him. Jayce has brought back the wonder of the universe to them. For so long, Viktor and Mel had wandered the world, aimlessly, but holding tightly to one another. They conjure themselves a life in that sleepy town.

They spend more and more time with Jayce, and it is clear that they are all falling for one another. Jayce doesn't want to make any kind of move because it would be remiss of him to come on to a married couple. It's been so long since Viktor and Mel had taken lovers at all, and so this new thing between them is so surprising it threatens to overtake them.

Of course Viktor and Mel talk. They realize they all want the same thing. Then they make a move on Jayce who's totally overwhelmed and melts into mush and they all live happily ever after.
