I am participating in the National History Day competition in 2018, and for my topic I am using the Stonewall Riots. You are the only historic queer blog Iโm following, so I hope this fits in. How should I refer to the gender identities of icons like Marsha P. Johnson or Sylvia Rivera? Iโm not trans myself so I thought I should ask before continuing.
This is a point of conflict from person to person. We generally use the label transgender woman for both of them, but if anyone has some (not transphobic) reason not to, please feel free to share!
